You should always try to make sure your anti-virus is up to date (AVG-Free is a good free anti-virus).
Also remember, if you haven't switched on your PC for a while you anti-virus program will not be up to date. Make sure you update it BEFORE you check your emails or browse the internet. That way you can stay safer from viruses and malware.
